Shristi means creation. Shristi believes in creating facilities for total habilitation of Persons With Disabilities (PWD). Our focus is on providing holistic support to PWD throught individualised, comprehensive programmes.

Saathi ( Companion )
Age Group: 0 to 16 years
Early Childhood Programme

During the early years, when a child is diagnosed with a developmental delay or disability, the parents need to access appropriate intervention for the development of their child. Shristi aims to address the needs of families during this most stressful period of early childhood. The programme is aimed at minimizing deficits and acquiring new skills, thereby increasing independent functioning and preventing secondary handicaps.

Chiguru ( Tender Leaves )
Age GROUP: 18 months to 6 years
Pre-school Inclusive Programme

Chiguru gives a head start to pre-schoolers from rural communities, including children with developmental delays through a comprehensive programme ( AARAMBH-UNICEF approved inclusive curriculum ). The special children who show significant progress are admitted into regular schools. Normal children learn to accept children with special needs from a tender age, developing a positive attitude.

Age: Infancy to Adulthood
Programme for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders

This programme provides intensive life skill training along with sensory integration therapy. It facilitates students to learn adaptive behavior skills, reduce atypical behaviors and develop alternate communications, thereby integrating them into the community.

Prayatna ( Effort )
Age: 6 to 14 years

Children with severe multiple disabilities and significantly low intellectual abilities are included in this programme. The comprehensive intervention programme includes special education, physio and occupational therapy, sensory stimulation and Augmentative and Alternative Communication ( AAC ) that aims to minimise secondary handicaps. Parents are trained in effective care giving and management of their child.

Pre-vocational Training ( Age group: 14 to 17 years )
Vocational Training ( Age group: 18 to 21 years )

Students are trained in Pre-vocational and Vocational skills to ensure employability and economic independence. In Pre-vocational unit, improving accuracy, quantity and quality of various skills, which are prerequisites for vocational training are enhanced and established. In the Vocational Training unit, systematic training is given to make the actual products. Training also ensures appropriate workplace behavior, social and communication skills.

Sadhana ( Achievement )
On-the-job Training

After completing the Vocational Training, students who can contribute fully or partially in making a product are given the opportunity to work in this unit. Depending on the individual capability of each student, they are also paid a nominal stipend. The sheltered workshop provides employment opportunities for adult students to be contributory members of the community. The product range includes, jute and paper products, cleaning agents and disinfectants, candles, artificial jewellery, etc.

Samudaya ( Community )

Through Community-based Rehabilitation Programme, Shristi reaches out to children from over 100 surrounding villages of our campus. It provides home-based therapy to the students who are unable to reach the centre due to distance or severe disability. The focus here is on family and community participation through awareness programmes and self-help groups. Over the year, all those who are eligible for a full day programme at Shristi are enrolled.

Dhristi ( Focus )

Periodic medical camps in collaboration with leading medical professionals and hospital are organized to address the medical needs of the students. Follow up treatment and medicines are provided to students from BPL families. Aids and appliances are also provided. Since November 2013, under The National Trust, we are making NIRAMAYA health insurance policy for the students of Shristi and other NGOs. We also assist parents in claiming reimbursement of the medical expenses from the insurance company.

Our Services

Our services are backed by a multidisciplinary team comprising of special educators, psychologists, therapists (physio, speech, music, and occupational), family counselors, support staff, vocational instructors, medico-social workers, and parent volunteers. We broadly classify our services into two categories:

HABILITATION SERVICES

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Our well-planned and structured system of teaching and consistent monitoring ensure that PWD achieve their maximum potential.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

Our treatment sessions involve therapeutic exercises to improve strength, enhance a range of motions, develop endurance and correct postural and muscle imbalance. What’s more? We also teach stretches that reduce stiffness and relieve pain.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Our therapy sessions are systematically planned to build abilities necessary for day-to-day activities. The goal of occupational therapy is to master everyday skills that will help individuals live independent, productive and satisfying lives.

SPEECH THERAPY

Speech therapy helps children and adults improve their communication, while also relieving them of difficulties in eating, drinking, and swallowing. This method also uses AAC intervention practices to enhance communication.

Transportation

Shristi provides monitored transportation services that enable students to travel independently, as public transport can often be challenging and time consuming.

Nutrition

We serve balanced and nutritious food in our dining room to all students, which also serves as an opportunity to impart self-care and hygiene skills.

Family Empowerment

Through these sessions, we help build awareness about Developmental Disabilities, and foster acceptance and understanding. Our counselors and team members make regular home visits to understand family dynamics and provide appropriate counseling.

Access to Government Schemes

We ensure students receive entitlements such as disability ID cards, disability pensions, NIRAMAYA health insurance, and bus and train passes by coordinating with various government offices.

Art Classes

Children are encouraged to express their feelings through painting, drawing and coloring. They have the chance to learn social skills, gain cognitive growth and practice sensory-motor skills.

Running Therapy

Students who can run for a limited time or short distance are systematically trained to run and walk distances upto 10 KM. Students are also encouraged to perform warm up exercises, stretching and strengthening exercises as part of running therapy. It increases self-esteem, physical and health-related fitness along with skill development.

Theatre

Through drama, key skills like standing, sitting, listening, watching, turn-taking, saying dialogues with confidence, negotiating with each other and groups and building trust are taught through special activities.
